Academic Images provides an exploration of approaches instructors can take when teaching with images in an academic setting.  The project's primary focus is on meshing technical opportunities with a reference to the theories informing visual learning.  

"Visual literacy encourages careful observation, awareness of aesthetics and their effect on meaning, visualization of concepts and data, contextualized visual interpretation, and experimentation with tools and technologies to design and create new media."  from ACRL Visual Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.
